QBronze33 | Quantum Computing and Programming, August 10-14, 2020

We organized an online workshop hosted by Faculty of Computer Science, Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, Pakistan.

We accepted 30+ applicants. We used online meeting tools Zoom and Discord for implementing the online workshop. During the workshop, we used the tutorial “Bronze” prepared by QWorld. It is a collection of Jupyter notebooks and each notebook has a couple of programming tasks to be solved by the participants.

Outline

August 5, 2020: The online installation and testing session between 16:00 and 18:00 (PKT).

August 10-14, 2020: The workshop was held between 15:00 and 18:00 (PKT) from Monday to Friday. For each day, a set of notebooks was specified and each participant was expected to complete them before the next session. The tentative schedule of each day was as follows:

  1. Classical systems, coin flipping, probabilistic bits and operators, and correlation
  2. Basics of quantum systems, quantum coin flipping, visualization of a qubit, superposition, and measurement
  3. Operations on a qubit, quantum tomography, and two qubits
  4. Entanglements, superdense coding, and quantum teleportation
  5. Grover’s search algorithm

Each day started with a 15-min opening meeting. Then, the participants worked asynchronously. We shareed a video for each notebook, and so the participants could watch it during studying it. Meanwhile, they contacted the workshop team to ask for help whenever they needed it. Each day ended with a short closing meeting.

Online workshop on quantum computing and programming

August 05, 2020 (installation & testing) and August 10-14, 2020 (the workshop)

The workshop is held online and each participant will join the workshop by using some online tools specified by the organizers such as Zoom and Discord. There will be an optional session between 16:00 (PKT) and 18:00 (PKT) on Wednesday, August 05, 2020 for the installation and testing. The workshop will be held between 15:00 (PKT) and 18:00 (PKT) on August 10-14, 2020. The workshop will be led by Dr. Abuzer Yakaryilmaz, a researcher in the Faculty of Computing, University of Latvia and a member of QWorld network (http://qworld.lu.lv). During the workshop, the following topics will be covered: Basics of classical and quantum systems, fundamental quantum algorithms and quantum protocols, and how to write basic quantum programs using quantum programming libraries. The organizers of the workshop are Abuzer Yakaryilmaz and Jibran Rashid (Institute of Business Administration).
